This was a study by the Center for Justice Research:
https://www.ohioattorneygeneral.gov/...stice-Research

Gun Crime was down overall; down in Columbus, Cleveland, Toledo, Akron, Parma, and Canton. Up in Cincinnati and Dayton.

Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost stated: “This is not to downplay the very real problem of crime in many neighborhoods in our cities – you don’t need a research team to see that gun violence destroys lives, families and opportunity,” Yost said. “The key takeaway from this study is that we have to keep the pressure on the criminals who shoot people, rather than Ohioans who responsibly exercise their Second Amendment rights.”

I generally agree with this, but I'm a little skeptical of the cause and effect. I don't think you flip a switch and pass a constitutional carry law and gun violence automatically drops. There's something else going on here.

I agree and would love to know of other contributing factors...althoug, I cant deny that the average citizen with a hog leg strapped to his/her hip doesnt deter crime...unlikely victim for sure.

Part of it is not knowing if someone has a gun or not. That old woman shopping at Kroger might have a Glock in her purse.

Crime was down all over the US in 2023 regardless of individual state gun laws. So, without an actual study establishing a specific connection with the law, no one can say what the specific cause is.

There's been constitutional carry for a few years here and no blood in the streets. Why? Because it works.

It doesnt take a study to understand that immediate consequence to crime by an armed victim is a deterrent.

Same thing happened in North Carolina when our castle law was adopted. When you think you may die for doing so one is less likely to break into a private home. Now what are we going to do to stop the store invasions?

Yeah, that's not how things work. You can't just make things up and assume connections, especially when studies have consistently shown that more guns do not deter crime, and if anything, actually increase it. There's been an established relationship between gun proliferation and reduced regulations and gun violence.

Some want to assume the drop in crime is related to the new law, but it shows a lack of imagination for other possibilities. For example, why couldn't it be that crime would've dropped even more had the law not gone into effect, and that the law was actually keeping crime higher than it otherwise would've been? Without any real data, you can't assume anything.

Also, if guns are such a deterrant, why doesn't a nation with one of the most heavily-armed populations on earth have little to no crime instead of the very high crime rates compared to the rest of the Western world?
