But that's kind of my point? What's to hide? MJ does not cause nose bleeds or cause your junk to shrink (I have no idea, just riffing here).

Maybe for you it isn't, but you'd be shocked by the number of people living in 21st century America who believe that this is exactly what the debate is about.

This is the main point I'm trying to make.

Generally, the less informed the person one is debating, the more likely that they will try to degrade the conversation to how bad something is for people.

That's why I don't really care if marijuana can harm someone or not. Nor do I care if heroin ( or alcohol or weight-lifting or eating fiber ... or ice cream ... ) harms people for the purposes of legalization or not.

Failing to make their point with the "Harm Argument" they will then degrade the conversation further by blurting out: "Why not just make murder legal then?!?!?"

.... and so it goes.

Legal Marijuana Is The Fastest-Growing Industry In The U.S.: Report

Imo it will be legal everywhere. If you follow the "money trails" with anything, it will lead you to the truth.

I don't think it'll pass this year (I personally will be voting yes). But It'll be a good test on how close Ohio is, especially in an off year election. I believe all the other states (Oregon, Wash, Colo and Alaska) had their ballot drives lose the first go around.

The one thing I'd really like to see is not selling it form of cookies or brownies that children could eat by mistake...I'm not sure if this part of RO's plan.

cincydave .......... edibles will be allowed under this plan. I understand your concern about kids getting their hands on it but, as always, it is up to the adults to make sure that "dangerous" materials are kept out of the reach of children. I don't see it as any different than keeping booze or bleach or medicines in a safe place where kids can't get to them.

Vote YES on Issue 3! Vote NO on Issue 2!

Riding fast motorcycles is more dangerous than smoking weed. Playing football is more dangerous than smoking weed.

Marijuana prohibition is ridiculous.

Legalize it. Regulate it. Tax it.

VOTE YES on "ISSUE 3" on NOVEMBER 3RD, 2015.

Tell a friend!

Is legalization of marijuana really something that should be a priority right now? Seems like we've got many more pressing issues than being concerned about someone's legal ability to zone out and increase the bottom line for Taco Bell.

Should the priority be keeping the cartels and drug dealers swimming in profits while Ohioans give away their hard earned money to chase, prosecute, and penalize marijuana smokers?

I guess Ohio is so wealthy that the potential tens of millions of dollars in savings on top of tens of millions in revenue is not that important. Must be nice.

Saw that "big picture" is going into all of the Ohio forums around here.

Wanted to note that I am leaning on voting no solely based on the fact that there will be a monopoly of a small group of people who will have access to permits and supplier status in the state under this amendment.

I am not a weed smoker and dont' smoke at all but have been looking at getting into the business of being a shop owner to sell supplies, seed, and weed in the future and this amendment will shut out people like me who want to get into a growing industry.

There are corporations and lobby group behind this and I am just wary of it and will do more research before deciding.

I do think marijuana should be made legal up to a point and that people shouldn't be jailed or fined for possession like they are today. It takes too much focus away from actual crimes IMO but as far as I can tell, this may not be the right issue to vote for.

From the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws (NORML)

Quote:
Ohio Marijuana Legalization Initiative

The ResponsibleOhio initiative, which would amend the Ohio constitution, will appear as Issue 3 on the November ballot. It would legalize the medical and personal use of marijuana for those 21 years and older. Marijuana patients will require a doctor’s note. Recreational users may possess up to one ounce of the drug or less. Home growers may have up to four flowering plants at a time but will need a cultivation license. It permits edibles and blocks local opt-outs.
If the measure is approved, the Ohio Marijuana Control Commission will regulate industrial and homegrown cannabis production, the chemical content of marijuana products, retail sales and taxation of marijuana.

A 15 percent flat tax will be levied on marijuana production facilities. An additional 5 percent flat tax will be imposed on all marijuana retail stores. Revenue from the taxes will be distributed to the Municipal and Township Government Stabilization Fund, Strong County Fund and the Marijuana Control Commission Fund.

In addition, however, the initiative would award licenses for 10 specific cultivation centers around the state to the same private investors who funded the campaign to support the amendment. Each was required to contribute a minimum of $2 million.

“Certainly this is a new wrinkle in the legalization movement to have investor driven initiatives. We’ve never run into these before and it has a lot of people concerned,” observed Stroup in comments to MJINews.

Although the move may be new in the world of legalized marijuana, it is not entirely new to Ohio voters who approved a constitutional measure permitting casino gambling in 2009. The campaign was heavily funded by Penn National Gaming, Inc., which nowoperatescasinos in Dayton and Toledo. In Ohio, it appears that the path for legalized marijuana is like the path for legalized casinos.
For those who still may be leaning toward voting Yes on 3, please also vote Yes on 2 (something I am considering). From the same link:

Quote:
Anti-monopoly amendment

The Ohio legislature was incensed and approved an anti-monopoly constitutional amendment that will also appear on the Nov. 3 ballot as Issue 2. If voters approve the amendment, it would invalidate the Marijuana Legislative Initiative.
If voters approve both measures, even if one barely squeaks over the finish line and the other wins by a landslide, the result may be in question. Suit up the lawyers.
Responsible Ohio as far as I can tell are just trying to set up a drug cartel monopoly in the state. This amendment is backed by millionaire investors who only seek to make more money while disallowing regular Ohioans from making money as well as time goes on by essentially shutting out anyone not a part of the millionaire's club.

They say that it can be "amended" later but honestly, once it is approved and they get even richer and more influential, do you honestly believe it will be amended? I don't think so.

Many groups are opposed to this issue based on the above.

Please do some research before you decide whether or not you will vote for this.

ETA: I saw on our local news as well that the 10 suppliers are already gearing up and have stated which "types" of marijuana they will be growing. Many parents of children who have seizure disorders that can be cured by a specific type of cannabis oil are against this issue due to the suppliers not growing the type of cannabis necessary to treat their children. They currently have to go to CO to get that specific type of treatment if they can afford to do so. Not allowing these limits on suppliers will increase the types of cannabis grown to include those who need specific medical marijuana. Just another consideration for you all.
