So I was watching the Notre Dame game in my bedroom when I saw something looking back at me from the edge of one of my closets. I thought I was hallucinating. It never moved. So I first put on some shoes, got my huge vacuum cleaner, took the picture below, and sucked that thing in. I could feel it bang against the inner vacuum hose as it slammed into the reservoir. Wish I got a closer picture but can someone tell me what kind it is? I would say it is at least 1" long (body) and with legs included, maybe 2" long? Freaking biggest spider I have ever seen in my life!!!

Please tell me it isn't a Black Widow!!! Not trying to die tonight!

Doesn't look spindly enough to be a black widow.

It looks like a wolf spider. They're scary because they're big and a little hairy. Not poisonous.

What is it doing in my room? I vacuum weekly and have no clutter. If they bite does it hurt bad?

Oh, god. If I saw one of those things, I'd burn down my whole apartment building. That's terrifying.

Here is a close up of a wolf spider.....actually kinda cute.

I think they are pretty harmless....never knew anyone who ever got bit by one.

When I had a first floor/basement apartment {half underground} I would get them all the time, find them in the bathtub too....I would corral them into a big paper bag and take them outside, in the winter I would take them to the laundry room.

Anyway, I started to spray insecticide along the bottom of the door to the apartment and they quit wandering in.

Now, I see them in the basement of my house or in the garage. I leave them be......but my cats are another story.

Radioactive spider man. Definitely.

For future reference Black Widows like an old 17th century inkwell. Round, bulbous, no furry skin. Also, unlike wolf spiders they tend to be smaller, especially females.

Also, in defense of wolf spiders. They are pest killing machines. They are the best defense against mosquitoes, flies, crickets, termites. (Doesn't mean I necessarily want one in the tub, but around the house they are pretty handy)
