Wolf Spider. Just a very large one. I have seen them many times. The times I find them indoors I just catch them in a jar or something and put them outside. They are good to have around as they kill lots of other things that are much nastier. They LOOK very scary, but it would probably never do anything to you. Shame you killed it.

PS: How's it down there in Carolina, weatherwise?
It's surprisingly quiet here in NC. The storm seems to be far enough north of us. We will get some rain, but I don't hear anyone talking about Sandy on the streets or anything. I guess I am glad to live without the excitement of what you guys are experiencing, but I am concerned about my tenants and our house in Vienna. Keeping my fingers crossed that it ends up being a smaller event than predicted.

Then the dog got taken out by an escaped lion from the zoo, who was immediately shot down by a man with an elephant gun. The man then went home and was bit by a black widow spider and died.

I had a wolf spider fall from the ceiling in a barn on to my forearm; it was so heavy it actually made a *thud* sound when it landed on my arm. I have never been so horrified by a spider in my life. It was huge.

I don't know why people are so freaked out, I always found spiders to be very cute, polite and well-mannered animals, plus they help out with the housecleaning by eating bugs!! Just chase them out of sight and let them be.
