it's become an odd melting pot of people from all over the world, many of them refugees. among the refugees are many professionals and a rich cultural background now trying to make good of another chance for themselves and their families as they live and work alongside a tough community that has stayed with their city even as the local economy fell on tough times and who themselves are descendants of a time when Utica was a melting pot and becoming strong and prosperous.
also, i really like utica greens and tomato pies. i wonder if there's going to be some utica-only burmese-american food that develops like a utica soup noodle or tea salad.

I stand by utica greens and tomato pies. Not so much chicken riggies and half moons which are both fine, but not nearly as appealing to me. The four do make a full meal though it's missing a real salad and soup.
What would people from elsewhere in the USA do in Utica for a living?
Perhaps work at one of the colleges/universities, insurance companies, potentially at the Nanotechnology Center, at one of the companies at the Griffiss Business Park in Rome, healthcare, perhaps at the Oneida Nation, Conmed, Revere in Rome, state "facilities" and perhaps companies in adjacent counties(HP Hood in Oneida, Kraft in Lowville, Remington in Ilion, etc), among other places.
I am not a fan of Utica greens, but I love tomato pie, half moon cookies, chicken riggies, Italian pastries from Cafe Caruso on Bleecker Street, desserts from Holland Farms, etc.
