"A $20 million mixed-use development is currently underway on Hotel Street in Utica, Mayor Robert Palmieri announced recently in a statement.
Palmieri said the project will feature 70 loft-style apartments, along with ground floor retail space in the Bagg’s Square corridor.
The project is being developed by a team consisting of Lahinch Group, Morrisroe Lynn Development and Hueber-Breuer Construction.
“The revitalization of Hotel Street is one of the final pieces to a complete and thriving downtown,” Palmieri said in a statement.
“Its historical significance, combined with its location make this are rife for a resurgence. The partners involved in this project are some proven commodities and I have no doubt, that Hotel St. will be a prime attraction in the near future.”
Hotel Street is one of the connecting streets between Liberty and Whitesboro Streets and is between Seneca Street and Burchard Lane.
What we know
The total renovation will cost nearly $20 million, and work was started last week, Palmieri said.
Earlier this year, New York State’s Empire State Development announced that the project had been awarded a $3 million through the Restore New York Communities Initiative grant and was previously awarded a $1 million capital grant.
The three buildings to be renovated include 119-137 Hotel Street, which are row style buildings.
The project has received all necessary permits and approvals. Once completed, it will restore this vital, but long-time dormant corridor in Utica’s Downtown.
In total, partners will renovate 87,000-square-feet located in the lower historic district and is a connection point to Genesee Street, Mohawk Valley Hospital System, Nexus Center and Harbor Point.
The project was proceeded by several public and private investments in Harbor Point and the Bagg’s Square corridor.
“Revitalizing our city centers by helping our municipal partners find creative ways to redevelop and transform neighborhoods, catalyzes new investments to spur growth for the future,” said Empire State Development President, CEO and Commissioner Hope Knight in a statement. “This project represents the next phase of the ongoing revival of Downtown Utica.”
