Here is some great information about Native American culture, as well as economics and politics in NY State: Video: Insight 11/13/15 | Watch Insight Online | WCNY/Channel 24 Video

School districts like La Fayette, Silver Creek, Salmon River, Akron, Gowanda, Salamanca, Southampton, Evans-Brant(Lake Shore), Onondaga Central, Massena and Niagara-Wheatfield, among maybe some others, have above average to high Native American student populations.

I don't see any culture beyond "tax-free", gas stations, smoke shops, and casinos. I wish there was some type of culture.

I believe that it is open and it is the same location of the former Sainte Marie of the Iroquois site in Liverpool.

I don't know about all of them, but I do know that the Oneida Nation does have a cultural center: Shako:wi Cultural Center | Oneida Indian Nation | Onyota'a:ká:

On the Onondaga Nation, I do know that many still go to the Longhouse for a range of activities.

There's also the growth of Lacrosse nationwide now.

One thing I noticed in stopping in Salamanca it is really it's just like anytown USA. Then again, we're only stopping to fill up and buy duty free cigarettes. Oh I did notice something else at the gas station we stop at.... no beer coolers.

It's difficult to experience any culture after 99% of their population is exterminated.

I live in Indian country and just because you don't see guys walking around in loin cloths with feathers in their hair or women stooped over a rock grinding corn into meal does not mean there isn't any culture.

Native Americans live in the 21st century, in America. They have jobs, watch TV, listen to music, adopt popular styles etc. just like Americans, Canadians, Mexicans, Germans, Italians, Japanese, Koreans, South Africans, and nearly everyone else in the world.

I suppose that being the case, there is no culture left in the world at all.

I live in Indian country myself. I can't imagine anyone, not even children, expecting to see loin cloths, rock grinding, etc. I also can't imagine anyone thinking that anyone else expects this to be Indian culture, but you've proven me wrong. And you further define culture as having a job, watching TV, listening to music?? I know you're not that dumb... no one is. Come on, try having a real conversation.

The first part was hyperbole to illustrate the point that Native Americans are not some people locked in time. Thus, as you pass through a town populated by NAs you are going to see convenience stores, gas stations, and businesses that support their livelihood.

The second part was not my definition of culture, in fact it was to show that these superficial commonalities of the 21st century obscure the very real cultural differences that exist in societies across the world.

You inferred the exact opposite of the intention of my post. If you want to have a real conversation, slow down as you read and consider the author's intent.
