Thanks and I will try to post more info. Living in the Syracuse area, Native American culture is quite present from the Onondaga Nation to those that live in LaFayette and Nedrow(CDP) to those that live in Syracuse's Valley and Near West Side neighborhoods, with the latter 2 having Onondagas and Mohawks/Akwasasne. So, I wasn't sure if people realize that this presence exists in visible degrees in various parts of the state and outside of casinos/select businesses.
Linda_d's post offered a lot of information about the Native American existence/experience in the western portion of the Southern Tier as well.
This reminds me of the Tohono O'odham reservation which is on the US-Mexico border
Yes, it does seem to be very similar in terms of smuggling issues, straddling a national border and forming an alliance of sorts with other nearby Native groups.
