THE SETTLEMENT (result of a lawsuit against NYCHA)

Involuntary Transfers Limited to “Extremely Underoccupied” Apartments

· Only those tenants whose apartments are “extremely underoccupied” (more than 2 extra bedrooms) will be required to transfer to smaller apartments.

· Tenants with one extra bedroom (“underoccupied apartments”) may be asked to transfer voluntarily, but the transfer will not be required and NYCHA should not take any action should the tenant decide not to move.
So, with 2 extra bedrooms you can be forced to move. I read this to say that only 3 or 4 bedroom apartments are affected.

You are absolutely right.
What I find sad is that ( sounds like a very nice person ) has to suffer
" For the better of the whole ".

What? Give up her apartment for A newcomer with 3 kids ? Gimme a break.

She busted her back to make a NYCHA apartment extraordinary. Where's the reward?
She said she is alone and her children are grown. Where will they sleep if they come
to visit ?

Why not praise this woman for her good deeds and make example of her good behavior
rather than suggesting that any incentive for any tenant wanting to make their home their own is futile.
