yeah I never really think about or ask about the headcount, because from everything I know, the lack of hiring isn't a manpower issue anyway...with the headcount where it is now, under normal economic circumstances, there would've been multiple classes hired since the last one...and the one person who does know the actual headcount is Epyon, and he posted this about 2 weeks ago:

it's an economic issue (the state/city budgets being billions in the red, tax revenues down even more this year compared to last year) and a Bloomberg pension reform issue (I've posted a few times that a shop steward family friend has told me there will never be another DSNY class until there's Tier 5)
so I don't really focus on who's going, who's staying, or the headcount, I'll just wait to see what happens after the election in November
the state is looking to plug a $3 billion deficit now, a projected $5 billion deficit for the next fiscal year, and there's no Tier 5 resolution yet, so I still can't see any hiring for a while...at least not until Epyon's guess (hopefully late summer/fall 2010)...we still have what, 6000+ guys? didn't a backup clerk post in the closed thread that we're still over on a lot of days? I doubt headcount is even an issue right now for the city or John "I can run this department with 3400 guys" Doherty
He can run it with 3400 guys. He has to just keep cutting. If he stops picking up garbage all together he would be over by 6000. I cant beleive this guy was once a sanman. I hope we get burried in snow this year.
Not sure how long,if at all,you've been on the job,but working for several weeks for 12 to 14 hours a day,without a day off,is rewarding financially,but trying physically and mentally. Going out on collection after a blizzard is a daunting task. Always remember,the threat of snow,especially on a sunday or holiday,is as good as the real thing. At least if you're on the emergency list.
Latest I've heard is they are training San cops on spreaders. Anyone else heard this?
This has been discussed before in the forums. Sanitation police are small in number right now. I'd say less than 100. Also, they are sanitation workers that are detached to enforcement. They all have gone through the same training that anyone else in the department has gone through. When you hear of "san cops on spreaders" all that means is they will be sent to fill slots in the districts during snowstorms. Yes,that probably means that they will be filling spots on the dayline while "regular san workers" are forced nights. Oh, and as the average san cop doesn't pickup garbage,don't be surprised if you find they are detached from broom and ez-pack garages. So they will likely fall back into those numbers when they get cut for snow.
Last year was cold too but not too much snow. I guess global warming is bull.
I think it also affects the jet streams another reason summer was so mild... And why this winter would be colder .. There is a saying for this reaction but I can't think of the term used to describe it...
Seriously, why does this guy still have a job? I understand union mentality, but unions should not defend people like this.
This just proves what a Sanman once said on the old DSNY thread. "If you know the right people you can get away with murder on this job." Doesn't the Commissioner have the final say in firing somebody? Once Doherty resigns or retires then you will see something happen.
I feel bad for whoever has to work with this slug on the truck.
