"At his arraignment in Bronx Criminal Court, a judge released him without bail.

He has no prior arrests, cops said.

Remember when cashless bail was signed into law and many on here said it was a conspiracy to think that actual criminals with gun charges would be back in the street the same day? That they were only going to be releasing low level criminals like people urinating or fare beating?

Yea I remember too.

People are locked up right now, yet crime is still being committed
But you think locking more people up is the answer
Tell me why

You are right, better to not lock them up. That should drive crime down. Look how well it is working out so far.

I mean incarceration has been around hundreds of years, yet we still have crime. So is it really a deterrent?

Aren't there more people in American prisons now than ever in history? Our country has one of the highest incarceration rates in the world.

Incarceration isn’t about reducing crime to 0 but it does keep crime lower than not incarcerating. Just think about it…if a criminal was locked up instead of walking around freely, he would not have a chance to commit another crime.

I'm not looking for a deterrent - I'm looking at keeping his future victims safe.
