They didn't think the were being clowned, they were just A-holes.
If you come up to a cop in NYC and thank them for their service, they’ll think you’re either on dope or trying to be sarcastic. Probably also depends who’s doing it and who the cops are.

And under new legislation they will have to write an encounter report.

Most of you are clueless about cops and how unpleasant their job is. Frankly I don’t know why or how anyone would want to be a cop. They deal with the worst of society. Murder scenes, corpses, gore, danger every day and a good chance to get killed.
Your days consists of staring at a screen for hours and coming home to eat the same boring meal every day with a person you have no clue about.
Most of you would be gutted like fish if you took away police for about a month once animals come out of shadows. This entitled perception of safety and human kindness is just a silly fantasy that too many think is real. The hippie experiment didn’t work then and will never work. In this animal world there are people who eat and then there are those who get eaten and in todays fruit loop society most would get slaughtered.

Honestly, most jobs suck. That’s why they’re jobs and not hobbies.

Cops have always been crying about pay but the pay hasn’t been terrible for a long time for anyone on the job 8+ years. Further, not all cops are out on the street. Half of them have desk duty or work in some cushy division like JTTF, ESU, details, etc. Yet others work in nice(r) neighborhoods. One of my colleagues had a fiend who’s son worked the Central Park nighttime beat (he only had 1-2 years in). He hated it because it was boring , barely any arrests, and he wanted to make Sergeant in the future. His most exciting day was when he would catch some guy jerking off in the park.

out of 35,000 cops, how many work the streets in dangerous hoods? 5,000 or less?

It’s like the NYC DOE. Classroom teachers (in general) have by far the hardest jobs and that may be only 30% of all school employees.

The pay isn’t bad either anymore. After 5 years, the salary is $120K. Let’s be honest here, what percentage of cops currently on the force would be making $120K if they weren’t NYPD?

Thats why all these idiots not wanting the cops to actually do their job is pure mental illness. You’re paying people a very good salary. Let them work for it.
