I just learned this: Cockroaches are a natural predator of bed bugs.

So maybe one reason that bed bugs haven't gotten out of control is our NYC cockroaches.

Cockroaches are natural predators of bed bugs and will readily eat them, as well as their eggs and nymphs. This makes them a natural form of pest control for bed bug infestations. In fact, in some cases, they may even be more effective at eliminating bed bugs than chemical treatments.

There is a hierarchy among all living things.
True. Cockroaches eat indoor insects. Great.
But what to do about cockroaches ?
Have a house full of frogs eating rocahes?
Get an Alligator to eat frogs and even
humans if given the chance? Hahahaha........

I say.......Best avoid this snow ball effect and just keep yourself and the house clean.
The results are amazing.

Cleanliness is next to Godliness.......

This is a little, um, disgusting.

Yeah, they eat bed bugs and their eggs, but don't forget that they put their eggs in their place. Eventually, the cockroaches will outnumber the beg bugs. Take your pick, a bed bug infestation that is ended by starting an infestation of cockroaches.

There are only two benefits of replacing one tiny insect type with another much larger.

A) Cockroaches don't drink your blood. (Dracula anyone?)

B) Cockroaches don't fly. (Well, the normal ones in much of the USA don't fly. Who knows what is the case with NYC. Afterall, most places in the USA have normal size rats, then there is NYC with cat size ones. Yikes!)

That's not the way it works.

This was more informative from the article.

Let’s take a closer look at what the research says. While it’s true that cockroaches are capable of scavenging on dead bed bugs or their eggs, there is no conclusive proof that they actively hunt and feed on bed bugs.

In fact, some studies suggest that cockroaches may even avoid areas where bed bugs are present due to the chemical signals that bed bugs release. So while you might hope that cockroaches would take care of your bed bug problem, it’s not a reliable solution.
Seems like they aren’t much help after all

Oh no. Rather than exchanging one infestation for another, people end up with two infestations?

There's also something called an Assassin bug that eats bedbugs. But I'm not sure how you'd kill the Assassin bug after you got rid of the bedbugs!

Aren't bed bugs in tight places like seams and under mattresses? How would the much larger cockroach get in bed with them?

Yikes, I've got the heebies too now.
