No one seems to care that these new subway cars are built by non USA companies. The R211s are made by Kawasaki for instance. The old R44s were built by St. Louis Car Company and the R46s by Pullman Standard Steel Car Company in Butler, PA. I guess we're all globalists.
Do you want low quality trash running on the subway?
Would you choose a dependable Toyota or a Chevy that comes with issues..
Subway equipment made by foreign companies are not without problems. The China Railway Rolling Stock Co. (CRRC) which is building new Red Line and Blue Line cars for the Boston subway system has had numerous problems and delays.

Do you know that NYC BANNED train cars made in China.. most of our cars are either Japanese built, French or previously Canadian..
And the cars that gave us problems were actually the Canadian built ones. A company previously known as Bombardier. They got bought out about 2 years ago by the French one called Alstom whom also made our previous cars with no problems. Also Kawasaki, Japanese company has been building cars for us since the 80s and we've never had problems with them.
Are these in service yet? I’m taking the train tomorrow.
Believe first five (5) R211S cars are indeed in service on SIRR. Your chances of getting to ride one however will vary since full order of trains won't arrive until sometime in 2024.

IIRC "NYC" did no such thing. Senator Schumer, Trump administration and others had a hair across their a$$ over China Railway Rolling Stock Corp. (CRRC), as such federal government did the banning.
List of worldwide rolling stock manufactures historical.
As you can see USA once had scores of such manufacturers, but many have either long since gone out of business, merged or were acquired.
Bombardier bought Pullman Standard and Budd company when they each went belly up. Largely to get at patents and other technology but also as toehold into USA market.
St. Louis Car Company mainly built streetcars and buses, though they did also produce rolling stock for RRs and subway trains. By 1970's street car market was dead, competition in bus market was brutal as was that for subway/commuter trains. So that was that for St. Louis and they were bought by General Steel.
Key takeaway points to remember is pre-WWII USA had the fastest, safest and most technology advanced rail network in world. Post WWII at federal and local levels funding and interest moved towards highways and motor vehicles, railroads were given a big eff off so they began to die out. While in Europe and Asia nations not only invested heavily in rebuilding passenger and freight rail, they also poured R&D into improved and new technology. Much of that was built upon things American rail rolling stock and locomotive manufacturers had done. No one else wanted those companies when they went bankrupt so foreign entities were free to get them.
I hope this is not a sign of how it will be with these new cars. No question they look better than typical NYC Subway trains, but last I check they aren’t Chinese. Geez…
