Hi, Is anyone here familiar with noise/vibration issues from restaurant ventilation equipment installed above their building/living beneath them? I am in trouble with a restaurant vent nestled right above my RS apartment. It is noise and vibration but vibration mostly that i feel on every wall, the floors, cabinets etc that The former restaurants before this current one (which moved last April) used to close their vent around 8.30- 9.00 PM and this one is going until 11.00 PM.
I had DOB came and inspect, they said it was installed properly which it was. DEP came and said it was not noisy enough because it was still below the decibel that was allowed.
Finally after many many complaints to the LL, he said he is willing to do something about it. Now the question is what can be done. The company he found was a regular vent maintenance company who came and inspected the vent to just say that it works fine but they don't know how the address the vibration. The vent is directly resting on metal/steel? beams which rest directly on wooden beams which are my ceiling.
Does anyone have an experience with addressing this issue of low frequency humming and vibration with restaurant vents? Any company to recommend. This is a Rent stabilized building so the LL won't want to spend a ton of money.
Either a restaurant owner or an above restaurant resident like me?
(Ps- not asking for Landlord -Tenant advice)

The fact that the Land Lord is kind enough to want to help shows that he is a good person.
Resolving the issue is another story. Other than lifting the entire system and sitting it on rubber mounts
which will only slightly lessen the noise I believe your best bet is soundproofing the interior of your apartment
which might help. Add some white noise machines to the surrounding environment. Either way ...............expensive.

Hi, Thank you for the feedback. I spoke to LL and he said he is looking for a "isolator" that will go under the ventilation system. But he said it is a process to find the right kind to support the vent and also observe the vibration. Hence i am asking if anyone knows here, maybe a restaurant owner or someone who maintains and works with these systems. Wonder if there is another more specific forum? I have been here 20 yrs. The LL is nice but i am also "nice" paid rent rain or shine through financial crisis and Covid. Kept the place nice and clean, smelling nothing but Mrs Meyer's everytime Interested in finding a solid solution. He may find this may damage the structure in the long run or even if i move another person may complain and move out.
If the DoB and DEP have been there and not given it a violation, I think you're pretty much screwed. Without them issuing a violation, and essentially saying the fan is operating legally, there's nothing you can do to force anyone (the LL, the restaurant) to fix it. If either of those agencies had issued a violation, you'd have more options.
