Strongest earthquake to strike New Jersey in nearly 250 years, and 3rd strongest on record for the state in 280 years of record-keeping (1737-2017). The only 2 stronger ones: a 5.2 mag in 1737 and 5.3 mag in 1783!

USGS says 4.8 earthquake centered in New Jersey. CSEM/EMSC says it was a 5.5.

And it happened 3 days before an Eclipse.

Was in an office building in Morristown and it was swinging. This was a lot larger than the one we had like 10 years ago.

Just got home, I have stress fractures along the wall of load bearing wall and some cracks in my basement right to the support. Unfortunately I know homeowners doesn't cover earthquakes.

It was very strong and towards then end I was thinking “this is going on for awhile…”

The sound is what struck me the most. It was like being on a train without the screeching part.

Oh crap... sorry that has happened. Best of luck and I hope cost of repairs isn't too much.

They said 7 seconds on radio. I'm in kinnelon, and it felt a lot longer than that. I went up and down stairs twice, while it was going on, trying to figure out what was happening. I thought military fly over initially.

Thats interesting! I noticed it was lasting pretty long here in CT near the NY border..

At first I thought ok a truck is going by on the main road 1/4 mile away... then it got louder and thought ok Helicopter must be flying low let me go outside and check. As I'm walking to the door the rattling and sound got louder and there were no helicopters. Automatically knew what happened

I was at work, a new job I took just last week. For the first three-ish seconds I thought it was some kind of machinery turning on in the building, but then realized that no machinery would cause the building to shake like that. It was wild.

Called my oldest son - kids are home on spring break. He didn’t even say hello. He said, “We’re okay. Are you okay?” Straight to the point with this kid. Then he hung up before I could even ask him if he wanted bacon, egg and cheese bagel for lunch. He is NOT a talker, lol.

I have been through a number of 7 degrees earthquakes, but this 4.7 scared me the most.

All of the past experiences did not have much sound, except stuff falling from shelves. Today's loud noise could be because I live close to Lebanon.

This is why today I was pretty sure this was not an earthquake. The sound was so loud I thought it is something more serious.

Yep, felt it here in PA about 1 mile from NJ. Everyone at my office in NJ felt it, too.

Good thing it didn't happen during the solar eclipse or the graves would have opened up.
