All districts should be doing this if they want to keep their substitute staff.

Shocking it was under $175 per day.

There’s only 183 days in the school year. An every day sub would only make $32k a year at $175 per day. And I don’t think they get benefits

I subbed for a while in our school district. Without teaching credentials you can't even sub every day. The most would be 4 days in a week. So if a teacher was out on leave you couldn't take that position. You're just waiting for calls day to day. For a hundred bucks!

It was under $175 per day!? Wow... 65% of property taxes (Averaging 17k) go to education and they cant even pay them a livable wage. My god.

$175 for working 5-6 hours and putting in a video tape (no idea what they use now-a-days), many people would be jumping at that.

Oh, it is not always that easy. Kids today are much harder to deal with in class and behavior issues are a lot worse mostly because there are very few consequences. I mean look what just happened to the Principal in this very same district (ironically). He was arrested for assault supposedly just for breaking up a fight. Was he supposed to just let the kids hurt each other and not break it up?? Even as a substitute, working in schools with kids these days is no easy task. Every staff member who works in a public school should be paid at least $25/- $30/hr, but since admins and higher ups who do a lot less are making 6 figures......aides, teacher assts, and subs are only paid an avg of $100 - $130/day which is of course why there is a desperate need to fill those positions.

Paying these subs $175 is the least they can do. I went to Maplewood Junior High in the mid '60's and it sure as hell wasn't like that.

part time substitute job is supposed to pay enough to live on? So where does the extra money come from? Arts program? Full time teacher pay? Higher property taxes?

so 7 hours with a lunch for $175? 30 minute lunch would lead to $27/hr

pretty good for a job where you can work whatever days you want

When it comes to flexibility...its great. But doesn't pay nearly what it should. FYI, when they do not get enough subs (which happens often), they pay FT teachers to cover classes at the rate of an extra $45 - $50 per class, meaning most school districts LOSE more money by not paying subs enough.

I.E. an avg MS or HS teacher has 5 classes per day, not counting Preps Duties and Lunch. Therefore, they pay OTHER teachers $250 total to cover EACH class they cannot get a sub for.

I might become a sub and just bring my laptop to class to do my real job while babysitting the students. Nice side hustle
