Wow, totally didn't expect something like this to occur in Glen Rock:

Wig-wearing bandit on the run with over $100,000 from Glen Rock Savings Bank, police say - News - NorthJersey.com

The guy(I'm assuming guy from pic) has some balls robbing a bank 500 yards from the police station. Police say they arrived within seconds? I think not, stuffing a bag with that much cash would take at least a minute or two. Serious egg on the face of the Glen Rock PD. No way this guy should have escaped. I mean come on they have 17 officers to cover a town with 2.74 square miles and almost 0 crime. Reminds me of that movie Trapped in Paradise.

I think they mean seconds after the alarm was triggered. They bank employees probably didn't trigger the alarm until they were sure the robber was outside the bank and wasn't going to reenter the bank to harm them.

Is it standard operating for FBI agents to respond to bank robberies? The area doesn't seem like one where Feds would typically be hanging around nearby

Really? Is that the bank procedure for a robbery? Why would they not sound the silent alarm as soon as a threat presents itself? What if the guy starts shooting people and no alarm was tripped? Not saying it didn't happen that way but it certainly defies logic.

Absolutely
Bank robbery is a federal crime, and as a result the FBI responds to these crime scenes.

In fact, the last FBI agent to be killed in the line of duty in NJ was shot (by friendly fire, IIRC) while staking out a bank in rural Hunterdon County where the agency believed that bank robbers were about to stage a robbery.

Robbing a bank is a federal crime so FBI almost always gets involved and works with local law enforcement.

Not that I have any experience in robbing banks but what better bank to rob. Low crime area, cops mostly write traffic tickets. Right across from police station so bank employees assume little chance of robbery. Probably Dunkin Doughnuts nearby.

Jason Beghe, Donny Wahlberg, Tom Selleck not on duty. (sorry for spelling errors)

FDIC means bank robberies actually stole federal funds. Bank robberies used to be small time, but the second you knock over a bank these days they make a Federal case out of it.

Because of the vast increase in bank robberies during the lawless 1930s, bank robbery was designated as a federal offense during that decade.
