Before I moved to NC, I remember seeing the Sonics commercial on TV and wondered where there was one. I live a couple of miles away from one down here and the funny thing is - its nearly always empty! The Wendy's next door to it will have cars backed up on the highway waiting to get in, while the Sonics next door will have one or two cars parked there. I ate there once - it's O.K. -nothing special. When the novelty wears off after they open up in NJ, it will just be another chain.
It's funny that you all like Sonics so much - there are two within five miles of my house and I've never been to them. There's never any people there when I drive by - I don't know by the time I pass it I've already stopped at one of the Zillion McDonalds that are sprinkled along the roads.
I took a road trip (two-two and a half hours) to get to the Sonic's in Morgantown, PA. It wasn't all bad though--it was my boyfriend's 25th birthday so we rented a brand new mustang and drove there in style.
Went to a Sonic for the first time this past summer in Hot Springs Village, Arkansas and was not at all impressed. Took 15 minutes just to get an ice cream sundae and the place wasn't even busy. The service was way to slow for us northerners who want everything fast. I'd rather eat in an airconditioned McDonalds than waste gas keeping the airconditioning going while eatting in the car.
there is one on RT30 in Lancaster PA right across from Tanger outlets
Currently 3 in PA; Lancaster, Ephrata, and Morgantown (just there yesterday and a 4th opening in a week or two just outside of Hershey. We're in PA quite often, and have been frequenting them.
It's amazing how devoid of franchised food the northeast is (New Jersey especially) relative to the rest of the country. That said, I am not so sure this is a bad characteristic. I'd rather dine occasionally at a fine restaurant than frequent these places that serve re-processed crap.

You're kidding right? At least in Central NJ you could theoretically eat at a different TGI Fridays every night for an entire week without driving more than an hour! lol

Let me correct that Badfish: there are probably at least 92 McDonalds alone off every exit ramp of I-95 in Connecticut (1 for every exit) however, there are no "Del Taco" "Carls Jr" "Jack in the Box" In and Out Burger" etc. You have a lot of locations, however, not the variety of ways to blow the lining out of your stomach.
