Hello everyone, I am in need of some help.

My family and I are attempting to move to the coast of either NC or SC, but we are open minded to MAYBE VA or GA as well. But, searching the internet over these past 2 weeks has gotten us little to no information. So, with that said, here goes our dilemma......

Right now, we live in Charlotte, NC but we are originally from Cleveland, OH. We loved living by the big Lake Erie, and when we recently visited Myrtle Beach, we realized what was missing in our lives and we decided that we wanted to move closer to a big mass of water. We are an African-American family, so cultural diversity is important. Really, anyplace where our children would be accepted and we could embrace all walks of life. We're big on outdoor activities. Nothing too extravagant, just nice walks with our dogs and such things.

~ What we are looking for is this: Are there any job opportunities in any city along the shores? Right now we work for a bank, and our job is a very good one.

~ We read somewhere that the crime rate is very high in MB. Is this a true statement now?

~ And how is the school systems? We have two little ones, and the oldest will be starting kindergarten in the fall, and we just want to make sure we make a good decision, as it will be our last for a very long time.

~ How is the cost of living in SC and on the shores of NC? Any other city that is by the shore's of the atlantic?

We are looking to purchase our first home wherever we move next, whether it be on Charlotte or another city. But we do want to live next to the shores.

We are open minded, however we really would prefer to stay in the NC/SC area.

Please help us out, at least to point us in the right direction.

Thanks folks

1-Charleston is a great option. Virginia is nice, but very costly. 2-Savannah is your main option in GA and is a beautiful city. 3-Wilmington is an option as is 4-Greenville (though it's not a coastal city) in NC. I'd say do some serious research on those 4 areas.

ps-There are many threads talking about the crime numbers in MB and how tourist based cities with smaller populations look worse than they are.
