I absolutely fell in love with Myrtle Beach. i only got to live there from Dec 2008 to June 2009 but I miss it every single day, literally. I am not sure if it was the people or the beach, because I definitely didn't love the "city". I am a city girl, I like when there are things to do, but there was enough to do in Myrtle for me, (Broadway at the Beach) but there was nothing to me like the Atlantic Ocean.

I agree with no culture there, but Charleston, SC was soooo adorable when I visited, and not too far. The south is just so much different from out west where im from. i love the friendly people and that "southern hospitality", which is a real thing. I would go back in a heart beat if i could and i am NOT a small town kinda girl... but there is something about Myrtle, and it definitely isn't for everyone I agree, I was just so infatuated with the "beach town" living i guess. it is humid, and there were bugs. but no place is perfect, everywhere has pros and cons.

The one thing that kills me about the south is the pay rate for jobs. Nothing beats it out west here in my state, and cost of living, now that the economy has crashed is fairly relative to the south, so i could be making appx 30K more a year and living in essentially for the same amount (except bills may be higher out west). it's just really hard to take away from that. and money isn't everything, but for someone not yet in their 30s, its a big deal, especially cause i want a family.

I think my happy medium will be vacationing there. the problem is i haven't been there since July and i went back two weeks ago for a wedding for 7 days, and on my way home i was just devastated that i was already leaving.

It all depends on what kind of person you are too. can you find things to make yourself happy?

this was an old post but i think it's funny that it shows how different people are

For us its nice to visit, but you wouldnt wanna live there. we moved there in 2007 and moved out in the spring of 2008. My daughter and I absolutly hated it. I fought the school the whole year , my daughter would come home crying everyday. At a school conference my daughters teacher told me , "your daughter needs to lose her southern accent". I said welcome to the south. To me being from western N.C. people in Myrtle Beach are just very insensitive. Towards the end I was hateful right back at them. As soon as my daughters school year was up, we moved to North Ga. and weve had no problems since. I dont think it was them, it was more me.
