Hi All,

I had a couple questions about CCU, my youngest is thinking of applying.

What is the relationship like between Conway and CCU? In some places universities and the local community really thrive together and in others they can be at odds.

Is the campus safe? Crime stats are easy to manipulate so I thought I would ask people who live there. Obviously, there will be alcohol/drug-related crime, but I wanted to know if it's somewhere that you are ok to walk back to your dorm at night, stay late in the library etc.

I realize this is a little bit of an odd post, so I appreciate your input. Thanks!

Don’t rely on anything I say, but just might know a little. CCU is isolated from Conway proper in a good way. I would expect the campus to be safe. Do not expect Conway to an interesting interactive college town as no lowcountry blue collar towns are, Charleston is a different animal altogether. Look at the crime stats for Orangeburg for example. It’s a college town. I could probably expound, but not here.

I would say both Conway and Orangeburg are safer than downtown Charleston overall.

My high school tennis team played Conway High on courts located in Conway at their riverfront park. I remember it being a nice park.

Coastal Carolina's location along a state highway is not that appealing to me. I think it would be better if the campus was located adjacent to downtown Conway and that park.

I would say Conway and the surrounding area embraces CCU --every Tuesday is " Teal Tuesday" in downtown Conway and there is an alley way devoted to the Chanticleers. When the football won their bowl game there was a parade in downtown Conway. Way back in 2016 when the baseball team won the national champioship, I have never seen a town so devoted to their team the entire way, through every game leading up to that very last win. I have lived not far from the campus for 9 years . Like every college campus you will have an issue here or there , but for the most part it is quite safe. My daughter graduated from CCU . It is correct that Conway is NOT within walking distance to the campus. Most everywhere someone may want to go requires a drive.

Here's a walking tour of the Conway riverfront park. This is probably the nicest riverfront park I've seen.
