What are the main differences between the Horry county schools for Murrells inlet (st James etc) and the Georgetown county schools in pawleys island (Waccamaw)?
Is one much higher scoring then the other? Do they have the same reputation and offerings? Which is your personal preference?
Generally, St James scores better than Waccamaw in most categories.
We live near St James and it has a great reputation. Many people look to move specifically into its school district. They seem to always have some activity displayed on their sign. A friend whose daughter attended there had good things to say. I don't know anyone who has a child attend Waccamaw so I can't comment specifically on that school.
From a non-education standpoint, you would need to decide whether you want to live closer to Myrtle Beach (and North MB) and the activities that they afford or further away in Pawley's which is kind of in it's own world because it's so far away from the types of activities of MB. Traffic between MB and Pawley's is pretty bad in the summer. Your child may find Pawley's "boring" or they may enjoy the small community feel...depends on their preferences. Pawley's does occasionally get the smell of the paper factory in Georgetown wafting over the community but that's not very often.
If you live in Murrells Inlet do you automatically go to St James or are there other schools that kids can get districted to?
I am open to either area however, I wouldn't like the Myrtle beach vibe, too commercial for us. We live in a somewhat rural area now and enjoy the quiet. So Pawleys or Murrells could work I suppose it's more about finding the right house, but schools obviously make a difference so that's why I'm trying to get the vibe. I have family down there but they don't have kids so they don't know about schools.
It appears that most of Murrells Inlet would go there but there are parts that would go to another high school. So, you can use this as your guide to where you may want to look for housing. You can enlarge the map to see individual streets.
Few people move to MB town limits but do still enjoy the activities and shopping opportunities. Plus, that's where the airport is if you need to fly. We like MI because of its proximity to things we like to do in MB and NMB.
We're from Newington but I'm familiar with Collinsville. I used to own the Meineke in Canton for awhile.
There aren't too many places here near the beach that have the feel of Collinsville. You have to go further out to find that. But, you might check out the Blackmoor commmunity or some of the existing/older homes in the Enterprise Road area, Long Ridge Road or, depending on your budget, Cypress River Plantation.
Thanks! We don't mind being more rural then Collinsville. I'll look into the areas you mentioned. Our budget would be up to 675k or so for a 4-5 bedroom.
The only way you're going to be as or more rural than Collinsville is to go west of the Intra Coastal Waterway and then that puts you a long way from the beach. The areas that I mentioned might work for you. They won't be as rural as Collinsville but will create a little more of the feel than some of the newer developments.
Good luck with your search. If you need a good agent, PM me and I'll provide you with a name.
