Hey guys, my fiancé and I are looking to relocate to the Surfside/Murrells Inlet area in the next 2 years. We are from the northeast and just want the better weather and the lifestyle we live would mesh really well in these areas. Our biggest worries are jobs or lack there of. We are both around 30 years old, she is a technical sales specialist, I’m in the IT field working as an asset administrator with help desk experience. We make decent money but know we will most likely take a pay cut in the area. Are there any jobs related to our fields? We are coming down debt free with the exception of our cars. We would like to rent first for a year before buying but we do have a Doberman. Are there any pet friendly options in the area?

Since no one else has responded, I'll give it a shot.

Regarding jobs...since I don't know what the actual responsibilities are of these job titles, it's hard to advise on whether there are jobs but I suggest that you watch Career Builder or Indeed.com to see what you might find. However, MB is not a large city and tech jobs are probably not plentiful. It would probably be best to see if you can find a job that allows you to work from home and bring your job with you.

Regarding housing....renting first is a good idea but with a doberman you're probably going to find your choices very limited. I have several rental houses and do allow pets but only under 20 pounds. Large dogs usually (but not always) create large problems (damage) in a rental and most landlords don't like to take the risk. Additionally, some insurance companies won't cover rentals with certain breeds (including dobermans).

Best of luck with your search and plans!

There are "some" IT jobs. Search LinkedIn for "Myrtle Beach". You'll get everything so you'll have to read through them.

You'll take a pay cut for sure but cost of living is super low. You can build a 5 bdrm house for $250k and $2,600/taxes.

Also if you're looking for IT/Tech Jobs, look at the Government. Horry County, Georgetown County, City of Myrtle Beach, North Myrtle Beach, or the colleges. You will take a pay cut, but the benefits are great
