What reasons do people choose Costal SC over Costal NC? I' m curious because I have not been to either. NC looks to have some nice areas. I received a 2018 NC travel guide. Thanks

And lower taxes are important to those of us who will be living on a marginally fixed income once we buy down there.

That is what I thought. When retired we need to think about cost living.

The coastal areas of NC can be very isolated because they are barrier islands. Not really so with SC. You are also in closer proximity to bigger citys in SC from the beaches.

Also, the weather is an issue. NC beaches up near the VA line is much colder in the winter with shorter summers than say Hilton Head.

Lastly, SC ocean temps in the summer are about ten degrees warmer because of the Gulf Stream.

Default Coastal NC

There are areas/towns that are not barrier islands and are quite nice - Southport and/or Oak Island come to mind. Southport borders the Atlantic Ocean and the InterCoastal waterway.

Lower taxes and depending on where you move more of a laid back or party atmosphere. Coastal NC is a little more family orientated whereas parts of coastal SC can be very family orientated as well but I have always felt was more sleazy if you will. Some people like that. I know I do

The upper NC coast has strong undertow and "sloggy" sand...hard to walk on/in....not a fan. The further south you go, the firmer the sand is....in SC it's a great walking beach, with very little undertow, unless of course, a storm is coming through! We have friends in Southport NC and in the Myrtle Beach and Murrells Inlet area. All enjoy it!
Gas prices are lower in SC than in NC!
