No part of the Eastern Coast is immune, but the land from Savannah to Wilmington is curved in to the west and somewhat more sheltered. Remember, it is the job of TV weathermen to strike fear in the hearts of the citizens and emphasise the severe dangerous nature of hurricanes and other weather phenomenae.
I have been through several in Florida, North Carolina, and Mississippi. Mostly we just partied and waited it out. Be prepared for a couple of days with no way to go anywhere and no electricity.
