Hey Beer Belly!
How did your retirement search go? We just got back from looking at Kingfish Bay and loved it much because of the proximity to the Fish Capital of the World as we were told by locals however, we went to Dockside Restaurant and that was a huge disappointment. Hope other local restaurants are not in the same category. We also visited Brunswick Plantation and Winding River which were also at the top of our retirement list with Compass Pointe and Brunswick Forest but now we’re more confused than ever. Any advice?
Thanks in advanced!
Kingfish, Brunswick Plantation, Brunswick Forest and Winding River are in North Carolina. You are posting in the South Carolina forum. You might get a better response in the Coastal North Carolina Forum.
My suggestion is to establish your price range, housing choice (condo, SF etc), amenities (pools, golf course, beach house, tennis etc). Visit the beaches, Cherry Grove, Sunset, Holden, Oak Island, Ocean Isle and see what appeals to you then you can narrow your search to the developments that meet most of your needs/wants.
There are a number of really good restaurants in the area and new ones opening.
Have fun!
We looked at Leland and actually bought a lot in Compass Point but at the last minute, we took a drive down 17 just to see what all the fuss was about. We drove into Ocean Ridge Plantation and knew right then that that's where we belonged. Have been here almost 5 years and are so glad we didn't end up in Leland. We thought we'd be going to Wilmington all the time but found out Myrtle Beach has so much more to offer and is much easier to get to (and closer). We never go to Wilmington. Too much crime, too crowded, too much traffic etc. We are in the ideal location...lots of golf courses, restaurants, shopping close by without the crime and traffic.
I know this is an old thread, but wanted to update in case someone reads it. You do now have to pay to park at the beach in most parts of North Myrtle Beach. You need to look up the map of the paid parking areas on the NMB city website so you're not surprised and end up with a ticket since they're not metered spaces.
Hope the virtual walk thru went and enjoy your closing tomorrow . You're moving into a great neighborhood ! I'm sure you will meet Dave and Barb very soon . Great people . See you in around 6 weeks .
