My girlfriend and I are looking to move to either MB or Wilmington. I really like MB for many reasons, one being cheap airfare to see family. The goal is to eventually purchase a multi family and live in one, and rent the others. I get a mix of answers when I ask about the economy. My GF is in hospitality and I am in IT. I didn't see many technical opportunities down there and just wanted some opinions from some locals. Is the economy really still just centralized around tourism? Anyone work in the technical field in MB?
My Fiance and I moved to MB 2 1/2 years ago from Connecticut after graduating college. While it is a fun place to live, the job market is really tough. If you are interested in serving/ waitressing, hospitality, or real estate then this is a great place for you! Other than that, it's a pretty challenging place to live economically! Sure, the housing market is great- but most people are retired or make their money elsewhere before settling down here.
One other area that has jobs is healthcare. So you might want to look into any IT positions in the area hospitals, Grand Strand Medical Center, Tidelands, Conway Medical Center, etc. I suspect there are other healthcare related areas with IT positions but wouldn't know where to suggest you look.
I am retired as of May 2017 (yay) but my wife is a Pharmacist and was able to get a position right away when she applied.
Best of luck!!
