We have tried several different routes and they all leave something to be desired. We live in the Market Common area and need a route from I-95 coming south. We tried getting off at exit 13AB around Lumberton and taking 74 to 410 to 9 to 31 to 501. Last time leaving MB very early in the am we took 501 all the way to I-95. Was the same amount of time as first route. We also drove 17 all the way to I-95 one early Sunday morning when the road was empty, (takes you all the way to Rocky Mt) but that took 3 1/4 hours!) Is there a way you like or would recommend? Thanks.
We always go 95-38-501
I guess it really depends on what kind of road you like to travel on. There is way to go through Conway, taking the backroads but since the speed limit is lower it may take you longer. There is also the option of Interstate 40 from 95 into Wilmington and then down 17
My husband just informed me that we did take 501 to 38 to 95. Is it horrible getting into MB that way on a weekday around 3pm or weekend? That's about the time we'd be getting off 95. I hear 501 gets very crowded. But, then again, on the way down getting off 13A/B I got behind a trailor who decided that the speed limit was too high for him and we crawled behind him!
Weekends at 3pm is prime time for the tourists to arrive so you will hit traffic from any direction really - weekdays are not too bad that time of day. We live right off 501 so we are just used to it and we know how to get around it

I would like to determine the "best" route too. I just follow my Garmin's directions from 95 S to Murrells Inlet, but over the years it has taken us at least 10 different routes. Not sure why, unless it chooses by time of day, day of week or even day of the month (although I don't think the software is or could be that smart). I might just be F'ing with us.......

Ok, so I'm not the only one that notices that!! My GPS also takes us various ways too!! And if you check Mapquest, GooglesMap or AAA all 3 have different routes they suggest!
My husband likes the 501 route for getting back on 95 and he is used to the 13A/B for getting us in. Was just wondering what other folks do.
What state are you coming from? Had the original plans of the I-74 corridor went through it would be easy.
Coming from Ohio down 77 we hit 74/52 to 220, to 9, then 38 right onto 501 and usually avoided Saturdays or Sundays when getting to 501. No problem getting from Columbus Ohio in 9 or so hours.
Or you could get off 95 to 9 to 31 going south and getting off at I believe 544 and get to Market Commons easily.
Dont know where you are coming from but hope this helps.
We've come in and out the traditional 95 to 501 etc. but like getting off 95 at 74 and coming in on all the back roads as well as back roads to route 9. Back roads are my choice and actually about 15 minutes faster than 501. Did 17 once and didn't like it.
