I know this will vary from community to community, but I'm looking for a very generalized answer here. Do pools in planned communities open from June to Sept or are they open longer? Do they usually close in the evening?
Ours is open from April/May until Oct. It use to be open all year when we first moved here. It closes about 9 PM each night but a couple of nights in the summer they have late night swims for the kids, and is open until midnight
It will depend on where you are, as you know, but in True Blue ( Pawleys Island) there is a pool that is kept open year-round. Its not heated, but the folks from WAAY north don't seem to mind.
Other "neighborhoods" in this area seem to open the pool around Memorial Day and stay open daily until Labor Day, then open on weekends for a month or so if the weather allows.
I can't understand why any community pool would wait until Memorial Day to open.
I didn't have a community pool but my own pool stayed open all year. On sunny days we'd hang out starting around February but never got in until probably March.
The pools in Barefoot resort are open until 10pm each night and are open year round. They are not heated but you may lay out year round. Practically then they are warm enough to swim from April to October. There are exceptions, a couple years the big pool by the towers closed for the winter either due to budget cuts or to refurbishing; however the little pools in the subdivisions remained open.

That is the pool schedule for our community (Park West, MI). At first I was unhappy with this, but since the pool is not heated it is reasonable. In fact few residents use the pool in April because the water is too chilly.
