We would like to retire to Myrtle Beach in a few months. We are on a limited budget and will need to rent. What are the best areas near the beach/worst areas? Is the crime really that bad? My husband will need to get a part time job, will that be too hard for him to get. He's very experienced in travel as well as golf. We know nothing about Myrtle Beach except that it's beautiful. Thanks
If you know nothing about Myrtle Beach, then you should visit and spend time there before you make such a drastic life-decision. Lots of vacation destinations sound WONDERFUL on paper, look lovely in the travel brochures, and are great for a week or two, but picking up and moving without an inkling of actual life in the city is a potential disaster waiting to happen. -You really need to see it first, especially if you are currently living outside the Southeast.
You might want to check out Florence which is 1 hour to the west right on I-95. Housing is much more affordable and you don't have to deal with all the tourist traffic. You could just get a timeshare for the warmer months in MB.
