Just curious...is calling an interstate "route" a regional thing? I grew up in Georgia and South Carolina and have never heard someone call it route 20. It is "I-20."

From the Free Dictionary:
route (rt, rout)
n. 1. Abbr. Rt. or Rte. a. A road, course, or way for travel from one place to another.
b. A highway.

I'm sorry I am frrom New Jersey and I seem to call most highways a "route" rather then a "interstate." So if I was giving directions I would say "route 20." but, we would both be right. A route is a highway, road...as is the interstate.
On the map we used to go to Atlanta from Myrtle Beach I think it only had "20" on it. I was hoping it was a decent highway and it was.

I guess it is a difference, huh? Where I'm from and where I live now, Interstates are "I" as in "I-20" while U.S. and state highways are "highway" as in "Highway 378."

Lol I'm not good with all those interstates and routes so I usually just say the number.
