My husband and I and our 2 adult children (20's) will be visiting MB over Memorial Day Weekend. I know that Black Bike Week takes place then and I'd like to do our best to avoid them (not a fan of the crude behavior they display on their website). We're staying at either the Marriott OceanWatch Villas (south of rt22) or North Beach Plantation (across from Barefoot Landing)-still deciding. Plan to spend most of our time at the resort (hopefully they won't be staying there) although, according to their website, there are activities planned throughout MB and NMB. Question - will we be ok if we go out to shop/eat at Market Commons? I already know that they'll be all over Broadway at the Beach and possibly Barefoot Landing. I'd love to get some advice from the local experts. Thank you!

I am coming to Murrells Inlet/Garden City that same weekend with my family. I thought I was avoiding bike week then read about this event happening on Memorial Day weekend. Will the noise, traffic, and partying going to be a factor that far down south of Myrtle Beach?

I wanted to take my relatives to Georgetown too but now I'm worried about traffic and craziness that any bike week brings. Help!

Thanks

Most activities of Black Bike Week take place in MB and NMB/Atlantic Beach. Generally, you should be unaffected at Market Common and in the south end. There are always exceptions and some of the crowd could make its way there but the south end would be your best bet. I would try to avoid downtown MB and Atlantic Beach during that time if I didn't like bikes. A drive to Georgetown shouldn't be much of a problem other than general Memorial Day traffic.

I don't really have anything to add about Bike Week, just wanted to highly recommend the Marriott OceanWatch Villas. My inlaws have a timeshare, and we have always enjoyed our time there.

Try the Holiday Inn in Surfside Beach, it sits by itself in the south end.
No other hotels are near it.
This way your trip to Georgetown shouldn't be all that bad. Garden City and Murrells should be better then any area of the north end.
I'd still go to Georgetown but I'd avoid Murrells Inlet and the restaurant area.
Yes, the craziness of bike week is not fun for those of us not into bikes.

Benice, you will run into traffic and have a hard time getting around if you stay at the places you mentioned, if you never leave the resort you will be fine, the problem is your right by the main festival area. Fro the person staying in Garden City you will have no problem heading anywhere south, to the Inlet or Georgetown.

Thanks for all the advice - sounds like the Marriott will be the best choice for spending most of our time at the resort. If we go out we'll stay away from places on Ocean Blvd and Kings Hwgy. Would business17 over to Market Common be an ok route out?

I agree with Gary. You will have a hard time if you stay at places close to all the action.
If you want the Market Common area. Resort Quest has Market Common Suites and that would get you right at the place your interested in.
I'd never put myself into the middle of bike week...

Kings Hwy is Business 17, Marriott is south of Atlantic Beach, so you will not be going anyplace north, you can take 17 Bypass to Broadway at the Beach and Market Commons, it should not be too bad.

If you want to go north, you can take 17 bypass south to Robert Grissom Pky then pick up Hwy 31 north which is the bypass for the bypass and take it to the Main St connector exit which will put you on Main St in NMB.
