Hey guys....what site do you use to track Hurricanes?
We have a 3rd floor condo with the glass doors facing perpendicular to the ocean..... (across the street from the beach). At what level would we need to tape or cover the glass doors and how is that usually done?
This is my hurricane-prep tutorial so any info is greatly appreciated....
Cat 4 with landfall to the south of us down to Charleston or predictions of the eye passing over us and I'd want to have the glass doors boarded up... but that's just me. A CAT 3 could be just as bad I presume, but I've grown a bit optimistic about the veracity of a CAT 3 or lesser storm over the last 20 years.

We do not plan to arrive in Murrells Inlet until next Thursday (11/1). Everything was put away in the garage before we left July 1st, so there is nothing to blow around. I think the worse that could happen is a tree blowing over onto the townhouse.... We will keep our fingers crossed.
Question.... as of today's reports (Monday 8/22).... should I be A. concerned, B. very concerned, or C. OMG! I'm flying in on Thursday so I'll be there in Murrell's Inlet for all of the fun. My home is not on the beach but on the beach side of 17.

Right or wrong, I prefer the official word - National Hurricane Center. Click on the storm name on the map to see the projected track, then click again to see the enlarged track. It doesn't matter a lot as the storm gets close. All of the servers will get slammed with traffic and you can rarely get thru.
Thanks guys...... I gave rep to everyone the system allows. Too much for you lately, I guess, PD.
Really hoping and praying for Irene to skirt us.... blew my plans for this weekend so I DON'T LIKE IRENE
Just an FYI, taping the windows won't prevent breakage. It will only prevent the glass from flying around (maybe). Best is hurricane shutters or plywood on the outside. I'd go buy the plywood now because it may be gone soon if not already and put it up before the storm hits. Hurricane Emergency Board Up Animation - FLASH, Inc. - YouTube

I agree with PawleysDude and I use the NOAA site.
Tape doesn't work in 100 mph winds. You need to use plywood.
Having stayed through Hugo, I'll never, ever stay again. A Category 1 Hurricane is still a hurricane and can kill you.
Never, ever again. Ask those people who were bragging about staying through Katrina how stupid it was.
For any Google Earth users out there, here's a site that takes all the individual forecast models and overlays them onto Google Earth. Keep in mind these models are only a part of what the Hurricane Center uses in projecting its official track. Still, it's nice to see all of the models staying east of SC. Pretty cool...
