I am looking for a condo in the MB area, preferrably one under $75,000. Will you recommend a good area in that price range or lower? The plan is to buy for vacation stays.
These days, depending on the size you are looking for, you can get an oceanfront condo for under 75,000 (although the HOA fees can be very high). How many bedrooms are you looking for? Are you looking for oceanfront, golf course view or just a condo within a reasonable distance to the beach?
Maybe one of the realtors can also chime in here but my perception is that South of Myrtle - Surfside, Garden City, Pawley's Island is considered to be the desireable areas. We love Garden City and $75,000 does seem to buy alot now. Like neece said, detail your want list and maybe we can provide more concrete input for you. Neece....what is the average HOA fee and inclusions? Ours includes hurricane insurance, water, basic cable, pool maintenance and trash service.

Tinabean, From what I have seen the typical HOA for oceanfront in Myrtle Beach are usually in the 4 or 5 hundreds per month and include the same things that you have mentioned. I have seen them as high as $800 though, but I wouldn't say that is the norm. I agree that anywhere from Surfside and south is more desirable. You can get some great bargains here also. I saw a Homepath condo the other day just west of 17 (business), I believe it was off of Glenns Bay RD. in Surfside, for under $40,000. The real fire sale is in Myrtle though. They can't give those places away. The oceanfront condos there are significantly less than our neck of the woods, I am guessing that is mostly due to volume of them and the fact that they are so difficult to finance.
@neece...
Well our $275/month HOA for second row seems like a bargain, then. Yeah, I knew there is a ton of condo inventory for Myrtle Beach proper but I wouldn't want to be there if someone gave me one. I just hope that Surfside, Garden City and South will not change like MB has over the years. Good luck to the OP with your search!
I did email them asking for more info. because that would have an affect on the answers. neecewh first post was right on target but the OP never answered the questions. I've seen hoa fees $200 and up and when I say up, they can be over $1000 a month. We really need to know more to help this member.
