Disney's newest Caucasian female lead has been given an ethnic makeover by critics angered by her 'generic' appearance.
Elsa the Snow Queen, who stars in this fall's fantasy-comedy animation Frozen, sports porcelain skin, long blonde hair, glassy blue eyes and a Princess-like sparkling gown.
Well, on the one hand it is pretty silly. The Snow Queen is a northern European fairy tale.
On the other hand, this is typical media hypberole. I read the article and didn't read of anyone "angry." It's fan art. That's extremely common on the internet. It ranges from the really cool to the really creepy.
So they're angry because the "Snow Queen" appears to be Nordic? This would almost be humorous if I didn't have to actually live in this society.
Well, then why even make a movie about a Nordic beauty? Since white kids are indeed a minority in that age group, why focus on european folklore when they could tackle folklore from other regions of the globe?

Why don't other regions of the globe tackle their own folklore?

Disney's an american company with a world reach. Surely, it could dig up stories from other countries and cultures. One thing's for sure. It's a whole lot more inclusive than it used to be.

It's typical for trash tabloids like the Daily Mail, always trying to rile their readers up and create "controversy".
Seriously it's a cartoon. Give Disney a chance. They will be up with the times. We have princess Tatiana, black, Mulan Chinese, Princess Jasmine Arabic, ........hmmm on second thought....We are missing a Latin Princess, Japanese princess, korean Princess, Italian princess, ....Hawaiian and so forth. Yeah Disney needs to get with the others.

Since when is "snow" represented by any other color than white?? Since when are (original) Nordic people anything but white??
