To say Mobile is ugly is reaching. Many outsiders view the city as historic and beautiful but has not reached its potential. I'd it dangerous? No Just as how safe you feel I. Bowing me and my family feel safe too. Ofocurse there are areas to avoid that's pretty much any city. You can't compare a town like loxley to Mobile. They have different demographics and are just different all together.

The biggest thing is that Mobile's leadership definitely missed the mark.

Usually when people say Mobile is ugly or looks industrial I automatically assume that they only pass through I-10 and made an assumption. Because I find it very hard to believe that someone who has truelly navigated through Mobile would call it ugly. Ugly parts yes of course that's any city but over all come on there was no way you really navigated through Mobile and say it's ugly when there are neighborhoods like, Detonti. Oakliegh, Chiurch street East, Old Dauphin Way, Springhill areas and soon many more.

The Oakliegh Historic district alone would shut down anything in Baldwin County. Fairhope may have some areas that can compete and that's a maybe.

And now that I think of it you compared the beauty of Mobile to Loxley !?! Bay Minette?!?! Malbis ?!

You passed through Mobile You havn't visited Mobile ain't no way.Mobile is an asset to all of those places you named.

Can Mobile do better as far as attracting tourist absolutely! Mobile has always had a " that's enough mentality " or "we don't need all of that" mentality. That is changing now but man I just can't see how you think Malbis is beautiful ( it's nice and cookie cutter) but call Mobile ugly compared to Loxley.
Well, there you go, thank you for the confirmation. As I said we aren't there anymore so I had to use google earth to see the name of the neighborhoods your mentioned. Worn looking, crumbling and patched sidewalks, broken driveways, narrow patchwork streets, unmaintained green areas and so on.

Mobile might consider having a seriously strong Blight Law. If it looks worn out and people don't take care of the property....bulldoze it. An empty field looks more appealing than run down old buildings and neighborhoods.

As in my 1st post, I have no intent to insult anyone. Some people have strong feelings about where they live and I get it and apologize if what we saw and describe of Mobile offends you.
It's just an observation about Mobile and the other poster describing how it can be beatified is spot on.

The city is working on the side walks. The biggest problem is the roots from the oak trees. The city is working on that also but some of those cracked side walks run through the most visually aesthetic neighborhoods on the Gulf Coast.

Like in this picture the side walks are cracked but the neighborhood is beautiful and at night it's on another level. https://www.instagram.com/p/CZ2XUW7F...dium=copy_link

Then you also have neighborhoods that look like this in Mobile.

Then the funny part is that there are shotgun neighborhoods that look like this a few blocks over loool.

I wasn't offended. What I'm saying is that it's not all ugly it's a mixed bag it's Mobile !

I think Mobile is Alabama’s next boom city along with Birmingham and Dothan.

Since like 2017 the city has focused on blight, major ordinances passed, blight has been reduce by over 75%, almost every single weekly city council meeting, the city council is condemning 2 to 8 properties to demolition. The city is literally destroying more blighted houses than what is being built in the city. I would not be looking at Google Earth. Those images are from Winter 2016. Mobile is in a completely different dynamic since then, not to mention there's are pretty high chance that anything you are looking at on google earth that is blighted is A) no longer exists or B) been renovated. I've been looking at houses in Midtown, it is shocking how many renovated houses for sale that were blighted houses when google earth last went through that area
