I don't want to get into political specifics on here, as that won't accomplish anything. I don't like the idea that, despite an enormous budget surplus, taxes are still going to go up, including gas taxes. Taxes were already high. I found out we can retire to IA and have no tax on our retirement income.

So we actually crunched the numbers for anyone else contemplating retirement in the Midwest. It will cost us $11,000 more a year to retire in MN than in IA. We can take a really nice vacation with the extra savings.

I don't know many people that flee to Iowa to save on taxes but I have some doubts on this one. There are better choices to save money on taxes around the United States than Iowa. Let's check wallet hub and see the difference.

https://wallethub.com/edu/states-wit...x-burden/20494

Minnesota tot taxes 9.95% Propterty taxes 2.82% taxes 4.01% Total Sales & Excise Tax 3.12%
Iowa tot taxes 9.21% Propterty taxes 3.39% income taxes 2.39 Total Sales & Excise Tax 3.43%

Minnesota does have a progressive tax system that can beneficial for lower incomes but more burdensome for higher incomes. But also haven't heard of many people escaping to Des Moines for the Culture and Art scene, but hey, to each their own.

I would invest in a Kinetico whole home water filtration system and then get another one because Iowa is #1 in something you don't want to be number one in....

https://www.thegazette.com/health-ca...new%20cancers.

This year, another 21,000 new cases may join the crowd — and 6,100 may die from the disease.

Iowa currently has the second-highest cancer rate in the country for the second year in a row, according to the 2024 “Cancer in Iowa” report, and has the fastest growing rate of new cancers. Two in five Iowa residents will be diagnosed with cancer. Four types of cancers are disproportionately common in the state, University of Iowa researchers have found. But the state is still digging to uncover why.

Don't drink the water and grab a Corona. Mexico city water is probably safer

Why has Minnesota grown at a much faster rate than Iowa? I'll explain in a later post
