Is the U of Minnesota really a Minneapolis school, or a St. Paul school? Pickin' a fight with ya!

(Just goes to show that I don't know the boundary between Minneapolis and St. Paul very well.)

Go Gophers as well as all the other schools in MN.

When was the last time they won the NCAA title? Maybe mid200's with Don Lucia as the coach.

Haha the school is in both actually, and Falcon Heights.

Yeah around 2003 won back to back, none since then. They did lose championship about 5 years ago. UMD has dominated everyone in country in last 10 years with 3 or 4 titles including the last two. Wild talked to their coach last summer about being their head coach (a friend of mine worked for Florida Panthers so I used to get lots of info)

Technically it's the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities, for what it's worth!!

Not only are five teams representing the state, but there are 115 Minnesota players in this year's tournament. The state with the second most is Michigan with 33.

BTW, 73 of those players are on Minnesota teams.

on the subject of US Hockey rivalries...

just re-watched 'Miracle' recently and there was a bar scene featuring BU's Jack O'Callahan and U of M's Rob McClanahan and subsequent fight at practice over an alleged cheap shot given by McClanahan to O'Callahan. I had not recalled any of that, which supposedly occurred in 1976. The Google revealed (thru a Reddit post on the movie) that the incident never happened and the two players never faced each other in a game. Oh well, it made for a good sub-plot.

I'm pretty sure that the end of the movie (no spoilers) was accurate tho.

I think Boston Hockey is the true Number 2 to Minnesota.

from a PBS documentary on Minnesota culture...

I’ve lived in all of the big 3 hockey states (Minnesota, Michigan, Massachusetts) and will contend that Michigan is #2 behind Minnesota. I was underwhelmed by the buzz for hockey in Boston compared to the other 2. So- Minnesota, Michigan, Massachusetts- in that order as the best hockey states, IMO.

Glad to see the Gophers killing it again. I knew Motzko would whip them back into shape. That was a no brainer hire.
