Hey all. My birthday is a week away (the 16th) and I asked a whole week off from work to enjoy it. I have been considering maybe renting a hotel (a cabin would be ideal if we had the money but...) up in Detroit Lakes. I've never been there or anywhere in northern Minnesota yet, but everything I've seen about it sounds great. A nice little getaway from the city, being in the water and all that jazz. My original birthday plan was to be over in New England but unfortunately, my partner's bonus has been delayed so we gotta stay closer to home.

I don't have my own boat, all I got is a tubing raft. I'm really interested in water ski rentals, if they're not too pricy, but its not an absolute deal breaker. I'm the kinda guy that doesn't need much to have a good time. Spent much of yesterday floating on Cedar Lake and it was super fun, but I would like something a little more out of the box if possible.

Would like to know some nice casual dining options, especially if there's walleye involved! And just any other cool places to check out. Also would appreciate bakery recommendations and anything else to be aware of/watch out for/keep in mind.

Also, if we're gonna be spending a few days up there, I'd like to be able to bring my pets (dog and cat) with us, as I don't wanna have to worry about getting someone to pet sit. Are there pet friendly hotels up there?

Check Americinn in Detroit Lakes, they may be pet friendly.

My partner and I stayed at the Holiday Inn with our dog. Really liked it as it was right on the lake.

We had a very good walleye dinner at Spanky's Stone Hearth on Rose Lake south of Detroit Lakes near Frazee. Wonderful view.

We ended up staying at Country Inn by Radisson. Still up here (currently returning from Fargo, SO is driving) and it's a gorgeous spot of the state. Definitely a nice choice

Didnt get any walleye but are at Zorbaz on my birthday night last night. Pretty good pizza for a decent price.
