Its not discrimination, it's standing up for a fundamental belief in your faith. Same with abortion and a host of other moral issues. Abortion is legal, doesn't mean the Catholic church condones it.
The problem with it is that they don't want "civil" marriages either. fine if they don't wish to marry gay couples in the confines of their own church. But when they fight to deny civil rights of marriage to tax-paying citizens in non-religious (state ceremonies), that's a horse of a different color. Another thing that I don't like about the church is their tax-exempt status. why should such a bigoted organization be tax-exempt?

My sister is lesbian. I'm a staunch supporter of her right to marry her girlfriend which she did in CT last year.
She is a conservative and much more in line with conservative views than myself or my wife.

That simply proved to me that it's not a political issue, it's a human rights issue.

You did great Minnesota, a HUGE congratulations on the forthcoming passage!!!!

Exactly; some churches are the most segregated, bigoted places around and not what I would consider to be a charity.

Already honing your axe, I see.

One of my employees is gay and is engaged. When we found out this passed everybody at work congratulated him.

This is an important statement about what sort of society we are going to have. Minnesota is on the right side of history.

Why should your religious beliefs - a choice if there ever was one - trump my access to the same rights that everyone else has?

Here's what will happen.

Marriage equality will be signed into law. Gay people will get married. Ten years will pass. Your own marriage will have been unaffected in even the remotest of ways. You will forget this was ever an issue.

The end.

So, can anyone tell me if it's actually passed or not? Did it go through?

It passed in the House. Monday it will go through the Senate. If approved, it will head to the Governor's desk.

People are excited about yesterday (even if it isn't for realz yet) because they weren't sure what to expect. The thought was that the DFL would not have brought the bill up unless they knew they had the votes -- this appears to be accurate -- so everyone is excited.
