I heard on the cities news this morning that an early fishing season has been passed. Good News?

Susie

Are we allowed to deliver that message on top of a juicy worm? I will get right on it if that is the case.

It has to do with early ice out and fish spawn. Water temps are much higher causing a early spawn. The reason opener was always a week later is to allow fish to complete spawning activity before they are pulled out of the lakes. Fish should be done spawning well before May 5th this year which is not normally the case. Makes sense to me that they move up the opener a week. Now peoples can avoid making up an excuse to go fishing on Mother's day.

Seems like a good idea to me. The weather's been so nice, so why delay? Assuming there's no environmental reason not to do it (which sounds like there's not), it seems like a great move. I don't fish, but for those who do, I'd imagine they're eager to get going and enjoy this extra bonus week.

Me too. If the fish are gonna be OK with it, I'm for it.

This year, some year we still see 15*f and blizzards in April. There is no guarantee the weather will always be this warn so early in the year.

Fishing opener has been moved up for this year only due to water temps. As far as I know there is no talk moving opener up every year.
