It still hasn't passed the senate - just approved by the house. It may or may not happen. A lot of resort openers aren't thrilled with the idea due to a lot fishermen making reservations for the opener, and if the opener changes, some of them may want to change their stay dates. I'm a fisherman, but if I'm not out the first day, big deal. But, I've always thought it less than brilliant to have it the same as Mother's Day weekend.

Most resorters won't even have their cabins ready by then.

I think the resort owners opposing the earlier opening is rather like Minnesota liquor store owners opposing laws allowing them to sell on Sunday. In the case of the liquor stores, no one would MAKE them open on Sunday, yet they know that others out there will be open. In the case of the resorts, no one HAS to open early, yet some places will undoubtedly hustle hard and open up to take advantage of the bonus week. Sounds like the resort owners who don't want an earlier opener just don't want to take on the extra work, yet don't want their competition to get ahead of them, either.
