Thanks
I'm assuming this is because you are getting your first driver's license. People who move to MN don't have to take a driving test if they have a license from another state, do they?

I don't think so.

The instructor is not supposed to ask you to do that.

According to the bottom of page 6 in the Minnesota Driver's Manual, "You will not be asked to do anything illegal during the test." Making a left turn from the right lane is illegal.

If this sort of thing happens to anyone else be sure you bring it up with someone at the test location.

New residents don't have to take a drivers test, but they do have to take a written test, which is fairly absurd, but at least that part was easy.

Thats because you have to make the lane change for the turn... plus they are not instructors there they are examiners. They are there to give you the test not to tell you how to do the test. Plus all the information in this thread is all wrong. Anyone can pass the test as long as you complete the test without going over the pionts scale they have. anyone who is white, black, yellow, purple, green, red doesn't matter what skin color you are. Plus the guy with the pony tale is a very nice guy.

Growing up, we always knew that the Plymouth one is harder, but thats just because of the course. The instructors are neutral, they arent going to try and swindle you into your license, and they arent going to hold it against you either. It all comes down to if you are prepared to be a driver on roads. If you do everything right, youll have nothing to worrry about.

How on earth could hitting the curb be an automatic fail? It may lose you a couple of points, but a fail would be ridiculous.

Even the greatest parallel parkers occasionally bump the curb with the rear tire. It's more important not to bump the cars in front of or behind you. (And to end up parked next to the curb, not a foot and a half away.)

I believe that mandatory fails are reserved for significant moving violations, and at-fault accidents.
