Whaaaat?!?! An April 2022- published study that says Minneapolis and St. Paul (and multiple first-ring suburbs) still rank among the highest nationwide for livability/ quality of life for people of all ages and the elderly? I'm sure this concrete data will be a tough pill to swallow for the many haters on this board.

"The top 10 mid-sized cities (population 100,000-499,999) are:

Overall Rank City
1 Alexandria, Virginia
2 Cambridge, Massachusetts
3 Arlington, Virginia
4 Saint Paul, Minnesota
5 Minneapolis
6 Madison, Wisconsin
7 Elizabeth, New Jersey
8 Rochester, Minnesota
9 Sioux Falls, South Dakota
10 Berkeley, California"

Minnesota towns/cities appeared to be disproportionately well-represented in all of the categories-- check out the 'small city' rankings:

"The top 10 small cities (population 25,000-99,999) are:

Overall Rank City
1 St. Louis Park, Minnesota
2 Watertown, Massachusetts
3 Belmont, Massachusetts
4 Arlington, Massachusetts
5 Somerville, Massachusetts
6 Bergenfield, New Jersey
7 Richfield, Minnesota
8 Roseville, Minnesota
9 North Bethesda, Maryland
10 Silver Spring, Maryland"

Did you read the scoring criteria the OP included? What would you add or subtract to make it more "fair and balanced" to your liking?

Livability is livability. It might not be the perfect place for gays or POC or poor-as-crap people, but they're going for the middle.

Now if someone wants to make a list of the best places to live for those who only want to see white people or want everyone to attend church or live where women don't work for a living, I'm sure there's plenty of towns all over the US that meet these qualifications. But those are the extreme end, not the middle.

Minneapolis most livable? That's got to be a bad joke. High crime, high taxes and low temps would seem to be on the other end of AARP's member's scale.

It was a list of MID sized cities. Sioux Falls is larger than 5 of the cities on that list.

You have to get out of the house and take a drive here some day. The population of SF (this isn't metro, but inside the city limits) is over 202,000.

LOL they put DC at #3 in the big city category; SF at #1. And yeah I read the criteria.

Twin Cities should be in the bottom half. Sioux Falls has a severe lack of transit & I believe available housing for rent for its size.

Agree Plus bad roads and high traffic and the dumping of immigrants.

Cambridge MA? That's laughable. The COL is ridiculous.

Portland, OR was there on the large city list. Sorry the city of Portland is crap. It is not livable the price of real estate is ridiculous and so is the cost of renting. They do have good transportation though. These lists are not accurate it's from whoever made its point of view.

SF does have a lack of transit, but I wouldn't call it severe. Construction of housing, apartment complexes and homes, is rampant in the city trying to keep up with this thing called growth. If you're a person with construction abilities jobs here are everywhere. This is not a bad thing. It's a problem most cities in the country wish they had.

Though SF is on this list, to me the list is a joke. AARP has proven once again that they haven't a clue.
