A Minnesota sheriff has broken his profession’s code of silence to blast the Minneapolis Police Department, saying he’s “disgusted” at the agency’s reportedly violent practices and calling for an overhaul of the agency from the “top down.”

At a Wednesday meeting of an advisory council to the state’s Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) board, Sheriff Sean Deringer of Wright County unloaded on Minneapolis cops who were caught on their own body cameras allegedly “hunting” protesters in the wake of the murder of George Floyd in 2020. ”I was absolutely disgusted watching that,” Deringer said, adding, “I have defended that agency for the very last time.”

Some more bad apples in the barrel. Looks like the sheriff is thinking the barrel is rotten vs. a couple of bad apples.

Attorney General report by Garland should shed some more light on this troubled police force.

It's great to see this level of honesty & integrity from a high-ranking LEO. More of this type of public 'policing' is needed to help reform toxic departments, and his critiques are pretty 'common knowledge' in Greater MN/St. Paul police departments from what I can tell.

I'm particularly impressed by this Sheriff though considering there are probably many MPD officers that are actually his constituents in Wright County.

You are correct it is nice to see, but it shouldn't be the exception. That is just basic human decency and maybe some common sense. Because with more of these stories coming to light, defending and supporting the police becomes problematic. These actions by the police can stain the profession leading to a host of issues.

The fact a squad did this is disturbing because it indicates either similar values or a "sheeple" mentality. Not a single man among those sheep to stand up and do the right thing. Gutless and amoral --perfect fit for working for the Florida police (just kidding...I hope).

Not a good sign when the "thugs" are the police.

When I have little less to do, I will share some more of Minneapolis police behaving badly. There are a few news articles that have circulated and haven't been posted.

Agreed. Having lived & worked in Minneapolis for 16 years (and having been a victim and witness of multiple Part 1 crimes), I could write a personal manifesto of just the bad MPD behavior I've personally experienced and why I think their culture is beyond repair absent systemic changes.

Did the police torch businesses in last year’s demonstrations?

No they were too busy messing with peaceful protesters and managing their feelings. Actually, in my neighborhood, the burning of businesses/ buildings may have been aided in part by police refusing to leave the 4th precinct building out of fear that it might get 'attacked' like the 3rd precinct (even though there were literally no demonstrations close by there). Because they refused to leave the precinct, fire dept was limited in their capacity to go into situations that might need police escort (so some buildings burned longer than they needed to).

In terms of the actual torching of buildings, in my neck of the woods that was mostly done by right-wing white supremacists (i.e. boogaloo boys, etc.). And police were just MIA.

When I see posts like this, it's no wonder why the city of Minneapolis elects total idiots to run the city and to send to Congress. No foothold in reality.
