Would anybody care to handicap safe speeds for rural interstate in ND, SD, IA, WI, MN?

I usually set cruise control for 77 (70 limit) on I-35 S to Iowa and have never had a problem in MN. Anybody ever get pulled over on that stretch? How fast were you going?

As soon as I hit Iowa I bump it down to 73 (70 limit), get paranoid, and bump it down to 72.5.

Went right by a state trooper in rural Nebraska cruising at 85 (75 limit).

I have a Thanksgiving trip to Denver coming up, so any experiences with these roads would be greatly appreciated.

Have driven many of these roads and I usually keep my speed to within 10% above the posted limit but may cheat a bit above that depending on the prevailing traffic and have passed many a trooper doing so without a response. Would agree that the number of HPs stopping folks in Iowa leads me to a much closer adherence to those limits there. Nebraska seems far and away the best chance to drive with impunity above the posted limits.

The incident happened in County of Anoka on a 50mph speed limit road
I got a speeding ticket for driving on 55 on 50 road. The office asked me why did I stopped you I said I might be driving on 55 but he told I was well over 60. Then he handed me a ticket which stated 55 and the speed limit is 50.

I am not afraid of paying the fine but I already had 1 speeding ticket on me and my insurance is pretty high.

Well is there anybody who can let me know if I get the points for this speeding violation and it will affect my insurance again.

Also should I contest this ticket? What is the procedure.

Please help me

Thanks!

I live in Des Moines and drive up to the Twin Cities for some holidays. I set the cruise control on 78-79 and have yet to get stopped for it. But I have a GPS unit that I bring with to make sure; my spedometer is rarely off more than 1mph but I don't want that to be the difference.

I've gone 77 through I-90 in southern MN a couple dozen times and have never gotten a ticket. I'm usually among the fastest 10% of drivers though. For some reason MN drivers on I-90 just drive SLOW. It's roughly 275 miles to get through the state and 250 of them are flat, farmland, where you can see for miles.

I did see one time a group of 5 or 6 cars going over 100 (I made it up to 95 and they were still pulling away at a considerable pace) ... about 5 minutes later 4 squad cars flew by going probably 130-140 and pulled them all over. Needless to say if you go that fast people are going to use their cell phones and report you.

Really? My experience on I-90 is most folks drive 80-85 MPH.

But don't even THINK about speeding in Wisconsin. They'll give tickets for 3 miles over, and the fines are quite a bit higher there.
