Hi all,

Recently moved to Minneapolis from metro-Detroit. I wanted to give my parents/wife's parents a gift box filled with stuff specifically from the Twin Cities/Minnesota. All I have so far is a jar of Hell's Kitchen peanut putter and a 6-pack of Nordeast. Hoping I can get some more ideas from pepople who have lived her for longer than a couple months! Does anyone else have any suggestions?

Thanks!

Brett

Surly beer
Candy from Tremblay's Sweet Shop
The book Up North by Joe Brandmeier has Minnesota photos with quotes from famous people and some local people as well. Sold at local gift shops.
Minnetonka Moccasins although I don't know if they're made here anymore.

How about some post cards from the area with pictures of the city on the front?

Lund's has a line of Stone Arch Bridge Wine. Spam should be included since it is such a unique product and made in MN. Anything from Schwan's would also be a Minnesota treat.

if one of them is a sports fan send a Twins/Wild/Vikings jersey or hat, they would think that's all too funny I'm sure.

Shakers Vodka. UV vodka, Summit or Surly beer, Nut Goodie candy bars, General Mills cereal, sports clothing, maple syrup, and wild rice would be nice.

You could toss in a Nordic Ware bundt pan (or anything else they make); they're local, and even have a factory in St. Louis Park. J.R. Watkins is based out of SE Minnesota (Winona, I think); I grew up buying their vanilla at the State Fair! (now it's much more widely distributed). And don't forget the local flour heritage: something to represent General Mills and Pillsbury would fit right in.
If you're looking for one-stop shopping, the Minnesota Historical Society's gift shop is large and has a wide variety of local gifts. Also, if you go to Lund's they do have a lot of local products mixed in on the shelves (so do the other stores, I just think it's easier to find them at Lunds); in particular, check out the spice aisles. I think they have some restaurant seasoning mixes from local favorites (think they may have something from Jax Cafe and Murray's), and I know in the pizza sauce section they have sauce from Green Mill and Davanni's. You can also buy Abdallah Chocolates (originally based in Uptown, now in Burnsville, but have been around locally for 100+ years) there, in both large and small quantities.
