I think the tanning thing varies by where you live. I remember on a former thread someone commented on how tanning was so common here; I looked into it out of curiosity (as I don't know anyone who tans) and was surprised to find that the (indoor) tanning rates are really high here. More than a third of Minnesotan adults do it, and in one survey more than half of the teenage girls (polled in Twin Cities suburban high schools) had gone to a tanning salon before. I don't remember any of my friends doing that (at least not that I know of!) and don't know anyone (at least who will admit to it!) now, but am guessing that it probably depends on your peer circle. And I do see far more tanning salons here, and real ones -- not just the ones that spray on the fake stuff.

I will admit that I was much better about putting on sunscreen on a daily basis while living in LA. It's easier -- for me, anyway -- to get sloppy about it when it's cold and snowy outside, despite knowing better. When it's warmer and sunnier it's a more visible reminder to remember to put on the SPF. (maybe that's why one of my whitest friends comes from Phoenix; it's tougher to ignore the sun or its power there!)

I think there's definitely something to the tall, blonde Scandinavian culture. I've always found Minnesota/Midwest girls better looking than those on the coasts, but diff'rent strokes for diff'rent folks.

Just saw that someone had posted the California Girls parody by TheKeyofAwesome, but no one had posted our very own Minnesota Girls song.. I'm sure most of you have seen it, but in the interest of having a complete and informative thread.. I now present to you some ladies with friable spam.
Grain Belt toast to you all.

To AllCity RayofMinneapolis and anybody else interested:
How do you embed a YouTube video into City Data Forum? Like this, lemme check:

Filipina Girls [California Girls Parody] - YouTube

Go to YouTube and find a post you like; look at the url line at the top of your browser, you'll see the YT post number; in this example, it says: "http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YzF4Y6AiuB8" . One way to get the video in your post is to copy that url line using "ctrl c" and paste into the body of your text with "ctrl v".

Altenately you can use the YT html -like tag. The modern version of the forum server software allows you to write in a "youtube" tag, so go to YT, copy that TY post number and come back to your post on City Data Forum.

There isn't yet a YT option button in the software, but you can write one in using html style protocol: "[y o u t u b e]YT Post Number[/ y o u t u b e]" (without the blanks, of course).

Since living in LA, I don't think I've been sunburnt once.
I heard part of that had something to do with the air quality....but I could be completely mistaken. When I was in LA in April I burnt real good, but I burn in April every year no matter where I am, and then once I get a solid base tan I don't burn very much north of the 40th parallel.
