In that case, some of the larger towns in the UP such as Houghton and Marquette may have what you're looking for; though I believe Marquette is fairly pricey, relatively speaking.

I would highly recommend Houghton personally. It's walkable, has tons of great recreation all around, and the summers are gorgeous. It has all the stores and amenities you would need for day to day living.

Spot on correct. Houghton has everything and is a great choice.

And despite average annual snowfalls of 200"+, the winters there are lively and nearly everyone participates in some type of winter sport. This past winter was somewhat rare though with bare ground lasting through February.
